The January 1, 2006 bike ride.

The northernmost part of this bike trip, where I  join the McClory Bike Path, just off Golf Road in  Waukegan.

These old style power line poles are through the  length of Waukegan.

What is the story behind these iron  towers?

Past this railroad bridge in North Chicago, the  path becomes  paved.

As the lit sign indicates, I don't walk, but I do stop to  take a photograph at Great Lakes Naval  Academy.

I don't know what this was, but I knew not to go through  it.

Stopping in Lake Forest for my favorite breakfast,
a bagel with  coffee.

Highland Park has this decorative arch where the bike  path continues.

North Shore Congregation Israel, Sheridan Road,  Glencoe.

Bahai  Temple,
Wilmette.

Lake Shore Nursing Home, at Touhy & Sheridan,  Chicago.

Navy Pier, Chicago.

Waiting for skate rental, Millennium Park, Chicago.   It will be a long wait because of the crowd already on the  ice.

Finally I'm getting some skating  exercise....

My trusty iron horse bicycle and I ride north to Waukegan via a larger iron horse.

It was raining when I arrived at the Waukegan train station, so there  are no photos of my bike ride from there.  I suppose I could have  gotten a photo of me buying a frozen pizza at Jewel on the ride home, but I was hungry at that point and wanted to get home promptly.

How far? Approximately 51 miles.   (43 miles from Gurnee to Millennium Park, one to the Chicago Metra  station, and 7 from the Waukegan station to home.)
